One of our letters we learned in handwriting class this week was S. S is a difficult letter to learn to form. However, if you give an activity meaning, motivation and mastery occur!
Our motivation was a celebration for Dr. Seuss’ birthday! We read a short story, and all of the children recognized and identified the famous Cat in the Hat on the cover! In between writing the letter S, and our typical movement breaks, we used tongs to place red and white pom-poms in a pattern to create Cat in the Hat’s hat!
The children begged for more. Everyone loves the One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish story, right?!. The kids “illustrated” their own stories with feathers. Then, they eagerly recited the story aloud.
Once again, Dr. Seuss made learning to read and write fun!
Only two more days to post your Dr. Seuss pictures for a chance to win a FUNDANOODLE prize pack. Have you entered yet????
