Get a Grip!

Proper pencil grip is the foundation on which good handwriting is based. Before your child ever grips a pencil, help them strengthen the hand and finger muscles that will help form a strong grip.

Play activities associated with building hand and finger muscles include: catching and throwing, lacing, jungle gym climbing, hanging from a jungle gym bar and swinging.

If you notice your child having trouble maintaining a good pencil grip, switch to a fun play activity that will also exercise their hand and finger muscles.
